September Design Inspiration
Hope you have enjoyed your summer ~
Art and accessories put the "finishing touches" on each design project created by Magnolia Design Studios. Working closely with the artist and client to develop these works of art is an extremely gratifying process.
This month I want to share with you a recent installation of works by Maryland Artist Sandi Wilson. This series of six "Biopaintings" are of the history of John Baptist de La Salle and St. John's College High School in Washington DC. The panels encapsulate their history dating back to the 1600's through today. The art was created in collaboration with the client, designer and artist by taking images, phrases, dates and mixed media to tell the story. The "encaustic" process includes wax, acrylic paints, mixed media on wood.
Both residential and commercial applications apply to this unique art form ~
What about your history? If you would like to learn more, or have a custom "Biopainting" created for you, please contact us ~

In a sense all mothers and fathers are designers of sorts. They create life.....
This month I am celebrating my family's creations of our next generation of daughters. The photo below includes "Nonna" with her Granddaughters in a candid photo at the beach! I look forward to seeing these beautiful young women evolve into the next generation of mothers, entrepreneurs, doctors, artists, business women, educators........the sky is the limit!

April Design Inspiration
What do you do when you want to relax?
I sometimes work on puzzles, but not just any puzzles...for me they must always have a unique aesthetic. Sometimes it might be an old master painting. Most recently I have completed "Spokes" as seen below. This is a new line of wooden puzzles that I have created with local artist Debbie Lynn Zwiebach. When I want to just "zone out" and only focus on beauty, I spend some time with my puzzle. They are a bit challenging, but that is the fun of it...and just as I am about 80% finished, although I feel accomplished I also feel like I do not want the challenge to be over. I suppose that means it's time to move on to the next stunning design....
